# Progress Bar

The Progress Bar component tracks a variable and renders it as an animated fill bar. Point it at a timer, a game score, health, moves, or a custom Progression variable, and the bar fills (or drains) in real time as the value changes. Use it for level progress, countdown urgency bars, health meters, or collection goals.

The component is built from three image layers — **Bar Fill**, **Bar Back**, and an **Icon** — which you can restyle with your own assets. Hover the layer in the Layers panel and click **Edit** to swap and arrange them.

### Choosing What to Track

The **Track** dropdown at the top of the Component section selects the variable the bar follows:

* **Scene Duration** (default) — fills across the length of the current scene.
* **Global Timer** — follows the project-wide [Global Timer](/play/settings/global-timer.md). Only listed when the Global Timer is enabled.
* **Progression variables** — custom variables defined in your project's [Progression](/play/settings/progression.md) settings.
* **Game variables** — Score, Moves, Health, or other variables owned by a Game layer in the same scene.

### Component Options

* **Min** and **Max** set the display range that maps to an empty and a full bar. Defaults are **0** and **100**. Values below Min read as empty and values above Max read as full. These fields are hidden when tracking Scene Duration or the Global Timer, since the range comes from the timer itself. Max must be greater than or equal to Min. Each accepts any value from **-999,999** to **999,999**; entries beyond that are clamped to the nearest allowed value.
* **Fill Direction** sets whether the bar fills to the **Right** (default) or to the **Left**.
* **Invert Value** flips the reading so the bar counts down from Max instead of up from Min. Default is **off**.
* **Fill Speed** controls how the bar animates to a new value: **Slow**, **Fast** (default), or **Instant**.
* **Show Icon** toggles the icon image. Default is **on**.
* **Icon Follow** makes the icon ride the bar's leading edge as it fills, instead of staying in place. Default is **off**.
* **Show Bar Back** toggles the background track image behind the fill. Default is **on**.

In the editor the bar always displays full; use the Preview to see it react to live values. Pair it with [Progress Text](/play/layers/components/progress-text.md) to show the number alongside the bar.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/layers/components/progress-bar.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
