# Countdown

The Countdown component displays the time remaining until a specific date and time, broken into days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Unlike scene timers, it counts toward a real-world moment — a game launch, a sale ending, a match kickoff — and shows the same remaining time to every user, updating live every second.

### Configuration

The Component section has two fields:

* **Date** — the target date, entered as MM/DD/YYYY. Default is **01/01/2000**.
* **Time** — the target time of day, entered as HH:MM in 24-hour format. Default is **00:00**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The target date and time are interpreted in **Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)**, not your local timezone. Convert your target moment to UTC before entering it — for example, a 7:00 PM ET kickoff is 23:00 or 00:00 UTC depending on daylight saving time.
{% endhint %}

If the target moment has already passed, the countdown keeps running past zero and displays the elapsed time with a minus sign.

### Styling the Digits

The component contains four Text child layers — **Days**, **Hours**, **Minutes**, and **Seconds**. Hover the Countdown in the Layers panel and click **Edit** to select each one and set its font, size, color, alignment, and position independently.

Each unit displays as a two-digit, zero-padded number (e.g., `09`). The component only renders the numbers, so add your own Text layers on top for labels ("DAYS", "HRS") and separators (":") to complete the design.

Don't need all four units? Position the ones you don't want outside the visible area of your design, or cover them with other layers.

### Behavior Notes

* The countdown runs continuously in the editor as well, so you can confirm the target is configured correctly without opening the Preview.
* The remaining time is computed against the user's device clock at runtime, so the countdown is accurate regardless of where the ad is served.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/layers/components/countdown.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
