# Paste Properties

<figure><img src="https://3019081569-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZBycFFNxrdS0X9OsGtmT%2Fuploads%2FJCMT9Fm3qPBRt2DBv7qY%2FEDIT%20CONTROLS%20-%20PASTE%20PROPERTIES.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=deefe79b-3038-42bd-bad7-7a4945f8e85a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Paste Properties lets you copy a layer and then apply only some of its properties to another layer, instead of pasting a whole new layer. It is the fastest way to make one layer match another, for example to give several layers the same position and size, the same animations, or the same interactions.

To use it, copy a layer, select the layer you want to change, then open the Edit Controls menu and hover over **Paste Properties** to open the submenu. Choose the category you want to paste, or use its keyboard shortcut.

{% hint style="info" %}
*Paste Properties changes properties only. The target layer keeps its own asset, such as its image, video, or content, even when you paste All Properties.*
{% endhint %}

Pasting always overwrites the target layer's current properties for that category.

#### Property categories

| Option                     | What it pastes                                                                      | Shortcut (Mac / Windows) |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| **All Properties**         | Every category below, applied at once                                               | `⌥⌘V / Ctrl+Alt+V`       |
| **Dynamic Properties** | Dynamic content settings and orientation settings for portrait, landscape, and both | `⌥⌘1 / Ctrl+Alt+1` |
| **Transform Properties**   | Position, size, rotation, flip, alignment, and scaling                              | `⌥⌘2 / Ctrl+Alt+2`       |
| **Timeline Properties**    | Start time and end time                                                             | `⌥⌘3 / Ctrl+Alt+3`       |
| **Interaction Properties** | The layer's interaction modules                                                     | `⌥⌘4 / Ctrl+Alt+4`       |
| **Animation Properties**   | The layer's animation modules                                                       | `⌥⌘5 / Ctrl+Alt+5`       |
| **Effects Properties**     | The layer's applied effects                                                         | `⌥⌘6 / Ctrl+Alt+6`       |

When you paste **Transform Properties**, the layer is scaled using the same proportion system used when replacing a layer, and it respects the layer's pin. This keeps the pasted layer positioned and sized correctly relative to its anchor point.

#### When an option is unavailable

A paste option is greyed out when the selected layer does not have that type of property, or when those properties cannot be edited on that layer. Layers built inside games, and some component sublayers, cannot accept most pasted properties. A few specific cases worth knowing:

* Group layers and the iFrame component cannot accept **Interaction Properties**. Group layers also cannot accept **Effects Properties**.
* Hotspot layers cannot accept **Animation Properties** or **Effects Properties**.
* The main game layer cannot accept **Timeline** or **Interaction Properties**.

If you trigger an unavailable paste using its keyboard shortcut, a *Cannot Paste Properties* toast appears.

Paste Properties is also unavailable when you have more than one layer on your clipboard. Copy a single layer to use it.

#### Pasting All Properties across different layers

**All Properties** pastes every category at once. When the copied layer and the target layer are different types, some categories may not apply to the target. There are three possible outcomes:

* If every category applies, all properties are pasted.
* If some categories apply and others do not, only the supported settings are pasted, and a *Some Properties Could Not Be Pasted* warning appears.
* If none apply, nothing changes, and a *Cannot Paste Properties* message appears.

Copying between layers of the same type, for example from one image layer to another, usually applies everything without a warning.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/general/edit-controls/paste-properties.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
