# Trigger Audio

Play a sound effect or audio clip when an action fires.

The **Trigger Audio** action plays an audio file. Use it for button clicks, reward sounds, voice lines and any other sound tied to a moment.

This is useful for patterns like:

* Click sounds on buttons
* A chime when a coin is collected
* A voice line or sting at a key moment in a scene

For music that plays across the whole playable, use [Background Music](/play/settings/background-music.md) instead.

### How it Works

When you select **Trigger Audio** as an action, PLAY shows an audio field.

* Click **Select** to choose a file from the asset library, or add a new one.
* Use the play button to preview the file in the editor.
* Use the delete button to clear it.

Once a file is chosen, a **Volume** slider appears, from 0% to 100%.

When the action fires, the file plays once. It follows the playable's overall volume, so it is silent when the ad network mutes the playable or the page is hidden.

### Where You Can Use It

**Trigger Audio** is available in every action dropdown, including Interactions, Layer and Scene **On Finish**, [Scene Events](/play/layers/scenes/scene-events.md), the [Global Timer](/play/settings/global-timer.md), and Progression [Triggers](/play/settings/progression/triggers.md) and [Conditionals](/play/settings/progression/conditionals.md).

### Setting Up Trigger Audio

### Open any action dropdown menu.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select **Trigger Audio.**

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Click **Select** and choose your audio file.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set the **Volume.**

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save your setup as usual.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Give every audio file in a project a unique name. Two files with the same name can play the wrong sound in the editor preview.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/general/actions/trigger-audio.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
