# Start Random Scene

Move the playable to a scene picked at random from a list you build.

The **Start Random Scene** action moves the playable to one scene picked at random from a list. Every playthrough can take a different path.

This is useful for patterns like:

* Shuffled levels or challenges
* Random prize reveals and mystery boxes
* Varied end cards to keep repeat viewers engaged

### How it Works

When you select **Start Random Scene** as an action, PLAY shows a **Scenes** list. It starts empty.

* Click **+** to add a row, then choose a scene in the row's dropdown.
* Click **−** on a row to remove it.

When the action fires, PLAY picks one row from the list with equal odds and moves the playable to that scene, the same way [Start Next Scene](/play/general/actions/start-next-scene.md) does.

{% hint style="info" %}
Add the same scene more than once to make it more likely. A list of Scene A, Scene A, Scene B picks Scene A two times out of three.
{% endhint %}

### Where You Can Use It

**Start Random Scene** is available in every action dropdown, including Interactions, Layer and Scene **On Finish**, [Scene Events](/play/layers/scenes/scene-events.md), the [Global Timer](/play/settings/global-timer.md), and Progression [Triggers](/play/settings/progression/triggers.md) and [Conditionals](/play/settings/progression/conditionals.md).

### Setting Up Start Random Scene

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open any action dropdown menu.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select **Start Random Scene.**

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Click **+** for each scene you want in the pool, and choose a scene in each row.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save your setup as usual.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Fill in every row. If PLAY picks a row with no scene selected, or a scene that was deleted, the playable stays where it is. An empty list does nothing.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/general/actions/start-random-scene.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
