# Skip Time

Jump the current scene's playhead to a set time, or forward or back by a set amount.

The **Skip Time** action moves the current scene's playhead. Jump to an exact moment, or skip forward or back by a number of seconds.

This is useful for patterns like:

* A **Skip** button that jumps past an intro
* Replaying a short section of a scene
* Jumping to a reveal moment when the user taps

### How it Works

When you select **Skip Time** as an action, PLAY shows a mode dropdown joined to a seconds field.

* **Skip to** moves the playhead to the exact time you enter. This is the default.
* **Skip Forward** moves the playhead ahead by the time you enter.
* **Skip Back** moves the playhead back by the time you enter.

The seconds field accepts decimals, from 0 up to the length of the current scene. Skip Forward and Skip Back stop at the start and end of the scene.

After the jump, the scene always plays from the new position, even if it was paused.

{% hint style="info" %}
[Scene Events](/play/layers/scenes/scene-events.md) that fall inside a skipped section do not fire. Skipping back past an event lets it fire again.
{% endhint %}

### Where You Can Use It

**Skip Time** is available in most action dropdowns, including Interactions, Layer and Scene **On Finish**, Scene Events, and Progression [Triggers](/play/settings/progression/triggers.md). It is not available in the [Global Timer](/play/settings/global-timer.md), since the timer is not tied to one scene.

### Setting Up Skip Time

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open any action dropdown menu.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Select **Skip Time.**

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Choose **Skip to**, **Skip Forward**, or **Skip Back**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Enter the time in seconds.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save your setup as usual.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Do not use a scene's **On finish** with **Skip to** 0 to loop a scene. On finish runs once per scene, so the scene loops a single time and then stops. Use [Restart Scene](/play/general/actions/restart-scene.md) instead.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/general/actions/skip-time.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
