# Restart Scene

Reload the current scene and play it again from the beginning.

<figure><img src="https://3019081569-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZBycFFNxrdS0X9OsGtmT%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3125ecf57bc4198a40b7d2f59f41e25ed8b05523%2Factions-restart-scene.png?alt=media" alt="The Interaction Properties popup with the Restart Scene action selected"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The **Restart Scene** action reloads the current scene and plays it from the start. Layers, videos, animations and Game Mechanics all return to how the scene begins.

This is useful for patterns like:

* A **Try Again** button after a failed level
* Looping a short scene until the user taps
* Resetting a game board

### How it Works

**Restart Scene** has no settings. Select it and it is ready.

When the action fires, PLAY rebuilds the current scene the same way it loads a new one. Exit [animations](/play/properties/animations.md) set to play when the scene finishes run first, then the scene starts over.

Restart Scene does not reset everything:

* **Progression variables keep their values.** Use [Update Progression](/play/general/actions/update-progression.md) with **Set to** to reset a score or lives count.
* **Global layers keep their hide state.** A [global layer](/play/layers/global-layers.md) hidden by [Hide Layer](/play/general/actions/hide-show-layer.md) stays hidden after a restart. Only a full playable restart clears it.

### Where You Can Use It

**Restart Scene** is available in every action dropdown, including Interactions, Layer and Scene **On Finish**, [Scene Events](/play/layers/scenes/scene-events.md), the [Global Timer](/play/settings/global-timer.md), and Progression [Triggers](/play/settings/progression/triggers.md) and [Conditionals](/play/settings/progression/conditionals.md).

{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/play/general/actions/restart-scene.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
