# Questions

What happens when CRAFTSMAN INTELLIGENCE asks you to choose between options before it continues, and how to answer, skip, or dismiss.

When the assistant needs a decision from you before it can continue, it asks. Rather than guessing at an ambiguous request, it presents a short set of options for you to pick from, along with room for your own answer. You will see this most often with the [Builder Agent](/intelligence/specialties/markdown.md) when a request could be carried out several ways, such as *"make me a variant"* without saying what should change.

***

### The Question Panel

Questions appear in a panel that takes the place of the message box at the bottom of the chat. Your attachments, if any, stay where they are above it. The panel shows a short label describing what is being asked, followed by the options.

The assistant may ask more than one question at once. When it does, numbered indicators appear in the panel header, one per question. The panel shows one question at a time. Click any number to jump to that question. Questions you have answered are marked so you can see what is left.

You cannot type in the regular message box while a question panel is open. Answer, skip, or dismiss the questions first.

***

### Choosing an Answer

There are two kinds of question.

**Single choice.** Options have round selectors, and you can pick one. Click a selected option again to clear it.

**Multiple choice.** Options have square checkboxes, and you can pick as many as apply.

In both cases, click the **arrow** button when you are done to move on. Pressing **Enter** on a highlighted option selects it and advances in one step.

***

### Giving Your Own Answer

Every question ends with a text field labeled **Enter a custom answer...** for when none of the options fit. Type your answer there. Typing a custom answer clears any options you had selected for that question, and choosing an option clears the custom text, so each question gets one answer.

***

### Submitting

On every question except the last, the button in the panel is a **right arrow** that moves to the next question. On the last question it becomes an **up arrow** that submits all your answers together. Pressing **Enter** in the custom answer field does the same.

As soon as you submit, the assistant continues with your answers. There is nothing else to send.

***

### Skipping and Dismissing

* **Skip a question.** Leave it unanswered and submit. It is recorded as no preference, and the assistant chooses on your behalf.
* **Dismiss all questions.** Click the **X** in the panel header to close it without answering. The assistant is told you declined to answer and carries on the conversation as best it can.

{% hint style="info" %}
*Submitting from question 1 of 3 submits all three. Questions you have not reached are treated as skipped.*
{% endhint %}

Open questions survive a page refresh. If you close the tab and come back, the panel is still waiting for you.

***

### Tips

* **Answer up front to skip the questions.** The assistant asks when your request leaves a real choice open. Including the details in your first message, for example *"create a variant with a green CTA and a night-time background"*, usually lets it go straight to work.
* **Use the custom answer for anything nuanced.** The options are the assistant's best guesses. If your answer is "option A, but only on the end card", say so in the custom field.
* **Skipping is fine.** If you genuinely have no preference, submit without choosing and let the assistant decide.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/intelligence/chatbot/user-input/questions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
