# Managing Assets

Preview, organize, and act on the assets in your library: folders, selecting, moving, downloading, renaming, editing, and deleting.

Once your files are in the Asset Library, you can preview them, organize them into folders, and act on one asset or many at once. To add new files, see [Uploading Assets](/asset-library/uploading-assets.md). To find assets by name or type, see [Search & Filters](/asset-library/navigation/search-and-filters.md).

***

### Asset Tiles

Each asset appears as a tile with a thumbnail. Hover a tile to see its name and details: the file type, the size, and for video and audio, the length. For example, `MP4 | 00:30 | 5.00MB`.

* **Video and audio:** hover the tile and click **Play** to preview it. Click **Pause** to stop. Only one preview plays at a time.
* **Fonts** show a sample of the typeface.

***

### Folders

Folders appear in the **Folders** section above your assets. Click the arrow on the section to collapse or expand it.

* **Create a folder:** click the **New Folder** button next to **Upload**. The folder is created where you are.
* **Open a folder:** double-click it. Use the breadcrumbs at the top to go back up.

***

### Selecting Assets

* **Click** an asset or its selection circle to select it. Click it again to deselect it.
* **Cmd + click** (Ctrl + click on Windows) adds or removes individual assets, so you can select assets out of order.
* **Shift + click** selects every asset between your last selection and the one you click.
* **Cmd + A** (Ctrl + A on Windows) selects every asset in the current folder.
* **Click** a folder to select it. You can select assets and folders together.

Your selection is listed in the sidebar, where you can remove items one at a time or click **Deselect All**.

Press **Esc** to clear the selection. Pressing it again steps back: it clears your search, goes up a folder, and finally closes the library.

{% hint style="info" %}
When you open the Asset Library from the editor to add or replace a layer, selecting an asset chooses it for that layer. Confirm with the button in the sidebar, like **Add Assets** or **Select**.
{% endhint %}

### Asset and Folder Actions

Hover an asset or folder and click its menu button, or right-click it, to see what you can do. With several items selected, the menu acts on the whole selection and shows how many items are selected.

| Action       | Assets            | Folders | Multiple items      |
| ------------ | ----------------- | ------- | ------------------- |
| **Delete**   | Yes               | Yes     | Yes                 |
| **Move**     | Yes               | Yes     | Yes                 |
| **Download** | Yes, except fonts | Yes     | Yes                 |
| **Edit** | Images and videos | No | One asset at a time |
| **Rename**   | Yes               | Yes     | One item at a time  |

#### Move

**Move** opens a folder picker. Choose a folder, or create a new one with the **Create Folder** button, and click **Move**.

You can also drag assets and folders onto a folder tile to move them there. Drag a selection to move everything in it at once.

#### Download

* **One asset** downloads as a single file.
* **A folder or several items** download together as a zip file that keeps your library's folder structure. The download is prepared first, so larger selections can take a moment.

You can download up to 1,000 items at once.

#### Edit

**Edit** opens an image or video in the [Asset Editor](/asset-library/asset-editor.md).

#### Rename

**Rename** opens a dialog to change the name. If another folder in the same place already has that name, you'll see a warning, but you can still save it. Assets can share names.

#### Delete

* **One asset** is deleted right away.
* **A folder or several items** ask you to confirm first. Deleting a folder deletes everything inside it.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The Asset Library has no archive or trash. Deleted assets and folders can't be recovered.
{% endhint %}

### CRAFTSMAN+ Library

Assets in the CRAFTSMAN+ library are shared with every company, so they're read-only. You can use them in your projects, but you can't move, rename, edit, or delete them. See [Libraries](/asset-library/navigation/libraries.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.craftsmanplus.com/asset-library/managing-assets.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
